Hometown hero Mahendra Singh Dhoni will lead India in the first ODI to be played at the newly constructed international-standard cricket stadium in Ranchi on 19 January against England. The stadium will be formally inaugurated on 17 January in presence of both the teams. ‘ICC has given it’s green signal to hold one-day matches in Ranchi’ said Amitabh Chaudhary, president of Jharkhand State Cricket Association[JSCA]. Three weeks ago, ICC had sent a team under David Boon to inspect the stadium and according to Chaudhary, the former Australian opener was happy with the state of affairs. ‘No stadium in India has arrangements for sitting on grass. This stadium has such arrangements which can be compared to some of best stadia around the world,’ Chaudhary said. The people of Ranchi are excited about the match.
