With the assembly elections just two days away, commuters in Delhi bore the brunt of the umpteen rallies and road shows that caused severe traffic snarls. On Wednesday, roadshows and rallies organised by Congress in the walled city, Tis Hazari and Sadar Bazar area caused severe congestion in New Delhi and central Delhi areas.
Apart from that, Rahul Gandhi’s rally at Jahangirpuri led to long tailbacks in areas of North-east Delhi and North Delhi. On the other hand, it was a rally by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that threw traffic out-of-gear in south Delhi.
Between 2 pm and 3 pm on Wednesday, major traffic congestion was reported in areas that include Baraf Khana to Azad Market, Turkman Gate, area around Old Delhi railway station, Lajpat Nagar, GPO, Karol Bagh, Bhagirath Place and the stretch between outer Delhi’s Burari and Bhalswa Dairy.
Between 3 pm and 4 pm, major traffic snarls were reported in the Ring Road stretches near Sarai Kale Khan, Maharani Bagh, Lajpat Nagar and Moolchand. Long tailbacks were also reported in Jahangirpuri, Azadpur, Shakti Nagar, Roop Nagar and Kashmere Gate areas.
