Rajnath takes up women’s safety with Delhi Police

Singh reached the Police Head Quarters (PHQ) at around 12 noon and discussed the aspects for almost two hours. Speaking to the media after his meeting with Commissioner of Police B S Bassi, he said: ‘I discussed with senior police officials about how can we modernise Delhi Police to tackle the law and order problems in the national capital.’
He further added that the Central government would provide all help to the city police force in its ‘modernisation programme’.
It was his first visit to the PHQ ever after he became the Union home minister.
Singh also apprised Bassi over the spectacular success of the recently launched mobile application for lodging ‘Lost Report’ and of mobile phone-based traffic assistance application.
Addressing the media, Singh said: ‘Women’s safety is mandatory in the national capital.’
‘The Central government would provide all possible help to the city police force
in its modernisation programme.
‘This time, we have urgent need to modernise our policing to curb crime, to maintain law and order and to be friendly with citizens,’ Singh emphasised. According to the home ministry officials, Singh also met with other Special Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner level officials and had one-on-one discussion. Singh was given a detailed presentation districts wise by Bassi and observed the Central police control room and integrated command centre’s functioning. ‘Bassi also gave a presentation on some key steps introduced by Delhi Police recently in the past and also apprised the Home Minister about some of the achievements of the force,’ said a senior police official.
‘Singh also shared his views over road rage and safety issues and assured Bassi for the approval of pending projects by the ministry such as intelligence traffic system, safe city and speed cameras to be installed on Delhi’s roads soon,’ added the official.
Issues like financial approval, manpower enhancement and clearance for some of the projects which are pending with the ministry were touched upon while internal issues of the force and steps needed to make it more effective and modern were also discussed.
