Rajnath meets Bassi to review law and order situation

In the wake of attacks on cops by criminals, home minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday reviewed the law and order situation in the national Capital and directed the Delhi Police to check illegal gangs who are operating in the city.

At a high-level meeting, attended by Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, Commissioner of Police BS Bassi and senior home ministry officials, Rajnath  Singh expressed concern over the recent killings of policemen by criminals and directed that such gangs should be checked on priority basis. Official sources said Bassi told in the meeting that the Delhi Police officers are pursuing the culprits and will bring them to justice, besides trying to stop illegal gangs running within the city. ‘The home minister has assured all help to the Delhi Police in this regard,’ he said. Rajnath also emphasised that technology should be used in better way for maintenance of law and order.

Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay, on the other hand, urged the police commissioner to provide sufficient equipment to police personnel to take effective action against the criminals.

In a letter to police commissioner B S Bassi, Upadhyay wrote: ‘The fatal attacks on policemen show that the criminal elements are not afraid of the police. It is a serious matter. The police force should not only be vigilant but should also possess sufficient equipment to take effective action against the criminals.’
