Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday called for more efforts to root out untouchability from the country, even as he claimed that the social evil has showed a declining trend in the recent times. Inaugurating the National Seminar on “Untouchability no more”, Singh said even Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” is in fact a decisive battle against “untouchability”.
Quoting religious and social reformers and political leaders such as Dayanand Saraswati, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. BR Ambedkar and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he said that those who sail against the tide are the ones considered brave.
Reminding the Hindu philosophy, which says that the whole world is a family, he said this was a very emotional moment for him when he was offered sweets and shared food with the Dalit women, considered social outcasts.
“There will be many who will disapprove his act and make them angry but he is not bothered whatever will be the consequences,” he added.
