As the Rajdhani College of Delhi university is completing it’s 50 years in 2014, the governing body of the college proposed that the name of Rajdhani College be changed to ‘Rajiv Gandhi Rajdhani college’.
Sources added that this move will give a new identity to the college and that the governing body of the college has already approved the new nomenclature. Now the College Management Committee will send documents to the Department of Higher Education for approval of the new name. After which the file will be tabled before the Delhi University vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh, added the sources.
This is not the first time by a governing body of college or educational institution to request for a change in name. For instance, Delhi College has been renamed as Zakir Husain College.
Rajdhani college was also established in 1964 under the name of Government College. The College got its new name when the Delhi administration vested its governance in an autonomous governing body.
