With handicrafts and handmade products back in vogue, it is time for us to put the spotlight on one of the richest cultures of our country, that of Rajasthan.
Keeping that in mind, Rural Non Farm Development Agency (RUDA), Government of Rajasthan and Development Commissioner, Government Of India, have organised an exhibition titled The Shilpangan which exhibits the handicrafts of Rajasthan.
The very air of exhibition has the feel of Rajasthan with the welcoming folk music and colourful hand-crafted items on display. The exhibition has provided an excellent platform to the workers, who mostly hail from small towns and villages of Rajasthan, to present their indigenous culture and style to the world at large.
You can pick up intricately designed bangles, patchwork carprts or miniature paintings that are signatures of the state. Â
Keeping in mind current trends, the decorative items and paintings have a modern and yet traditional finishing. Customers also get to talk to participant artisans who interact and explain their work as well as the process and procedure that went into making their artefacts and designs.
Bindoo Ranjan, a design consultant, feels that the handicrafts have immense potential as today’s customer wants product with finish and traditionalism.
The exhibition has a wide variety of products including lac bangles, Bagru handblock printed fabrics, Rajasthani dolls, leather mojris, meenakari items, Phad paintings of Bhilwara, tie and dye saris and dress material, marble artefacts etc. Apart from representing culture, the products like kalash-shaped clocks also have spiritual meaning. Kalash is symbolic of good times and happiness.
So, folks, don’t miss this opportunity to add the artefacts and attires of this rich culture to your home.
