Rajan to be RBI OSD for 3 weeks before taking charge

RBI governor-designate Raghuram Govind Rajan, an American citizen, will serve as officer on special duty (OSD) with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for three weeks before taking over as its head.
‘Dr Raghuram Rajan is ... appointed as officer on special duty in the Reserve Bank of India for a period of three weeks prior to his taking over as Governor, RBI, on 5 September, 2013, to provide for an overlap with the present governor,’ the Finance Ministry said.
Speaking at the RBI’s central board meeting, Rajan said that he is confident of overcoming the challenges facing the Indian economy and the rupee. ‘It is a challenging environment and we will overcome the challenges,’asserted the former IMF chief economist.
