The Opposition has asked the government to come clean on the sudden arrest of Rajan from Indonesia and clarify whether it was part of a deal. Sources in government told Millennium Post that Rajan’s arrest in Bali was facilitated by Indian intelligence agencies. “Indian agencies are working on a strategy to eliminate underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s syndicate internally and externally by using Rajan and his close aide Vicky Malhotra, who has been with him for the last two decades,” the official further said.
While multiple Indian agencies are working overtime to draw up a plan with Rajan to create a counter to the D-company’s influence in India, the sleuths at the same time are speculated to be in touch with Malhotra, who is touted to take over Rajan’s operations outside India, to counter Dawood’s global network. Meanwhile, replying to a question on Dawood, Chhota Rajan said: “he was not afraid of anyone”.
Speaking to Millennium Post, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime-Mumbai Police) Atulchandra Kulkarni confirmed that in the metropolis both the gangs were active and their interests ranged across the spectrum. “We are keeping our fingers crossed. Let Rajan come to India and only then we will see how much the rivalry gets intensified. We will act according to the inputs and situations,” said Kulkarni.
“The entire episode of Rajan’s arrest had raised suspicion on the involvement of Indian intelligence from day one. If you analyse the Bangkok episode, you will come to conclusion that it would not have been possible for an injured Rajan to escape from the hospital without the help of Bangkok officials,” said MN Singh, former Commissioner of Mumbai Police, who had sent three officers to Bangkok to bring back the don.
Singh, however, refused to comment at whose behest Bangkok officials helped Rajan flee. He said it could have been better for India had he been caught 15 years ago, his arrest now would be more to his advantage rather than the Indian authorities.” There is a strong possibility that Rajan might have struck a deal with intelligence agencies to get a safer place in India as he was facing threats from Indian authorities as well as Dawood,” Singh said.
Sources said Rajan’s arrest is a deliberate move on the part of intelligence agencies to counter Dawood’s second-in-command Chhota Shakeel and his operations in India. Sources in the government don’t rule out a fresh bout of gang wars in the city once Malhotra takes over and tries to checkmate D-company’s existing establishment.
