Raising funds for animal shelters

“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” ? Mahatma Gandhi

Keeping this belief in view, a fundraiser (musical concert) has been organised by People For Animals on August 27 at Mavlankar Auditorium, Constitution Club of India, in the national Capital. They would present to the audience an evening full of Punjabi, Bollywood and Sufi songs by Rabbi Shergill, Dr Palash Sen and his band Euphoria.

Rabbi Shergill, Dr Palash Sen and Euphoria are helping People For Animals raising funds for animal welfare. People For Animals, chaired by Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, is India’s largest animal welfare organization which works on ground for the rehabilitation and treatment of animals.

With 36 hospitals-cum-shelter and over 200 units all over India, PFA’s goal is to make shelter-cum-hospitals in every district in the country. They rescue and rehabilitate animals that are unwell and needy, with treatment camps, ambulance services, sterilization programmes and disaster rescue missions for animals. PFA also conducts educational programmes at schools for animal welfare.
When your four legged friends can be the most loyal and comforting, you barely need human companionship to upgrade you social status. It is often suggested to have a loyal dog for a friend than ten not-so-loyal human friends.

Dr Palash Sen is not only a singer, songwriter, musician and composer but also an actor. He is best  known  as  the  founder  and  frontman  of  India’s  pop band Euphoria (1988) which has gone on to become one of best loved music groups in India.

Rabbi Shergill is well known for his debut album Rabbi and the chart - topper song of 2005, ‘Bullah Ki Jaana’. His music has been described variously as rock, Sufiana and semi sufi, semi Folksy, with a lot of western arrangement. Rabbi Shergill has been called ‘Punjabi music’s true urban balladeer’.

As quoted by Anatole France, “Until one has loved an animal a part of one’s soul remains unawakened,” there must be a collective effort to care for animals and look after their well being, as in the well being of one species lies the welfare of another. Animals had been created with equally skilled care and genius like the proud humans were, by the Almighty. But the four legged species have often been denied love, ill-treated and slaughtered brutally by us, questionning the worth of the title of God’s greatest creation. People For Animals has its free service shelters-cum-hospitals in Agra, Ahmedabad, Alipurduar, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chandrapur, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Dehradun, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Goa, Guwahati, Gurgaon, Hooghly, Indore, Jalandhar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Mysore, Nagpur, Pune, Sirohi, Trivandrum and Wardha.
