Rains lash Delhi, cause waterlogging

Heavy rains lashed the national capital on Thursday, bringing to fore the problems of water-logging and subsequent difficulties for the people.
The heavy showers started after 1.30 pm, slowing down traffic on major stretches near the ITO, South Extension and Vikas Marg, among others.
Water-logging was reported from several areas, including Laxmi Nagar, Parliament Street and ITO.
Lodhi Colony area received the highest rainfall during the day when the weather station measured 22 mm of rains followed by Palam which got 17 mm of showers. Najafgarh got 10 mm, Narela 9 mm, Pitampura 2 mm and Ridge got 1.3 mm.
The heavy showers started after 1.30 pm slowing down traffic on major stretches near ITO, South Extension and Vikas Marg among others. Water-logging was reported from several areas including Laxmi Nagar, Parliament Street and ITO.
According to the Central Control Room for three municipal corporations, there were ten complaints of water-logging from areas like Budh Vihar, Paschim Vihar, Rohini, Mongolpuri, Shalimar Bagh and Avantika.
There were four calls related to falling of trees and a case of collapse of a roof, it said.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 28.2 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal, while the maximum was recorded at 32.8 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal.
