Rainbow: Showcasing the myriad hues of 7 North-eastern states

At a time when the city is striving to make a hospitable milieu for the people from the North-east, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College (ARSD) of the Delhi University has taken several initiatives to make its campus welcoming and warmhearted for the students from the seven sister states.

In one of its kind initiative, the college organises a special inter-college fest, named Rainbow, to showcase the cultural diversity of the North-East and also to end the ignorance about the region among students from mainland.

Not only this, the college conducts several orientation classes for new North-eastern students where they are made aware of the college and their courses by faculty members and senior North-east students.

“The college puts special emphasis on creating a welcoming ambiance for students hailing from North-east. The special orientation classes and inter-college fest Rainbow are an effort to achieve that aim.

Famous personalities from the North-eastern region are invited as chief guests for the fest. Last year’s chief guest was Robin Hibu, Joint Commissioner and Nodal Officer for North-East People, Delhi Police and before this the chief guest was former Chief Election Commissioner of India, HS Brahma,” said Gyantosh Kumar Jha, Principal of ARSD College.

“Apart from this, we also organise several seminars and symposiums for all students on topics related to North-East. The idea behind these events is to make all aware and understand North-east India and celebrate cultural diversity of India,” added Jha.

“The college provides a healthy environment for us. There has been no instance of any racial profiling and racial slur in the college,” said Anik Chakma, a 2nd year student from Tripura.

“The college authority pays special attention to students from North-East. It has been very supportive of us and has been quick in addressing our grievances,” Soukambao Rimai, 3rd year student from Manipur said.
