Rain respite spells traffic WOE

Some parts of the city received mild rains on Thursday evening, with the weatherman predicting mild rains with thunderstorm for the city on Friday. 'The change in weather is due to the western disturbance coupled with cyclonic circulation created over Rajasthan and Pakistan,' said M Duraisamy, weather scientist at MeT office in New Delhi. 'Partly cloudy sky, rain and thunderstorms accompanied with thunder squall likely to occur in some areas intermittently,' said a senior MeT officer in New Delhi, while predicting the weather for Friday. The city recorded 4.3 mm of rain rain between 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm on Thursday at Safdarjung observatory. The maximum and minimum temperatures on Friday are likely to be around 30 and 16 degrees Celsius respectively.

Meanwhile, Thursday’s rainfall threw the traffic out of gear across the city owing to the problem of water logging. Vehicular movement was affected across the city including at ITO, Vikas Marg, South Extension, Mahipalpur, Hari Nagar, IIT crossing to Adchini, Moti Bagh, Yusuf Sarai Market , Sarai Kale Khan, Modi Mill and Munirka. Areas such as Badarpur border, Wazirpur Industrial Area, Ashok Vihar, Laxmi Nagar, Mahipalpur, ITO, Bhogal, Jangpura, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, Dhaula Kuan, Janakpuri, Patel Nagar, Khajurikhas and Moolchand also witnessed heavy traffic snarls. Water-logging was also reported from Mahipalpur village, following which traffic coming from Gurgaon and moving towards Vasant Kunj was severely affected.
