Rain leads to power woes in Noida, Ghaziabad

The power departments in the two cities have received hundreds of complaints regarding high number of cuts from the consumers. The worst impacted are rural areas where at present there is negligible supply of power.

The residents have blamed the ill-preparedness of the power departments as they failed to manage the situation. The officials, however, said that they are on toes to improve the situation.

“Faults are being detected and repaired accordingly. We will improve the situation as soon as possible,” an official said.

Residents of Sectors 12, 20, 37, 39, 40, 41 and 52, Mamura, Harola, Khoda, Gizhore, Sorkha and other parts complained of power failure. Villages located on the outskirts of the city also reported power crisis since Sunday.

In Ghaziabad, the residents of Govindpuram, Vasundhara, Sahibabad, Vaishali, Indirapuram, Raj Nagar, Sahibabad, Murad Nagar and Modi Nagar, Govindpuram among others complained of severe power cuts.

“Frequent power cuts in the area have forced the people to stay at their house. In several apartments of the societies, lifts have stopped functioning. People are in crisis as water supply has also hit due to outages,” said NP Singh, president of Federation of Noida Residents’ Welfare Association (FoNRWA).

The officials of power department claimed that they are monitoring the situation is likely to improve from Tuesday onwards.

“Although there is no shortage in supply, crisis deepens due to unprecedented rain. As faults have been reported from various parts, we have been working to sort them out.  Once rains stop, we will speed up the repair work,” said an official of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL).
