Rain, kanwar yatra cause traffic snarls in national capital

Rains occurred in several parts of the national Capital today with the mercury settling below the 35 degrees Celsius mark. The maximum temperature was recorded at 34.6 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year, while the minimum settled at 28.3 degrees, a notch above the season’s average, an official of the MeT department said.

“The Safdarjung observatory, reading of which is considered the official figure for the city, recorded traces of rainfall between 8.30 am to 5.30 pm. “Weather stations at Palam and Ridge recorded 0.8 mm and 6.9 mm rainfall during the same period,” the official said.

The humidity oscillated between 89 and 66 per cent. The MeT office has predicted overcast conditions and the possibility of moderate rains for on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, heavy traffic snarls were reported from parts of the city firstly because of the rain and secondly for Kanwar Yatra. Traffic was reportred from Pandit Pant Marg from R/A GPO due to procession of the Kanwarias. 

Despite the traffic advisory issued by the Delhi Traffic Police in light of the Kanwariya procession, traffic was reported at Faiz Road, ISBT flyover, Vande Matram Marg, Kalindi Kunj, Mathura Road and Badarpur border.
