Rain brought the temperature down by several notches in north India and led to a rise in water levels in major rivers of Uttar Pradesh while a person was killed in Maharashtra’s Thane district when a wall collapsed due to torrential downpour.
The three metropolitan cities Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai recorded the maximum temperature at 34.7, 32.5 and 29.5 degree Celsius.
In Maharashtra, 75-year-old Ismail Jyotiba Kamble was killed when a wall collapsed on him in a chawl in Thane district due to heavy rains. The weatherman said Goa is expected to witness incessant rains till July 1 as the southwest monsoon is “very active” over the state.
Coastal Odisha and interior parts of the state witnessed heavy rains in the last 24 hours. Heavy monsoon showers are likely to hit south coastal Odisha due to a low pressure area over the west-central part of the state. Parts of UP received moderate to heavy rainfall with the water level rising in the major rivers of the state.
Rains in Punjab and Haryana brought relief to the residents reeling under humid conditions. In Haryana, Ambala, Hisar and Karnal received 11.1 mm, 0.2 mm and 8.8 mm of rains, respectively. In Punjab, Ludhiana gauged 70.2 mm and Patiala 18.5 mm of rainfall.
