Railways’ April-July earnings gallop 10.7% to Rs44,260 crore

Railways have earned Rs 44,260.16 crore between April and July this year compared to Rs 39,969.24 crore in the same period last year, marking an increase of 10.74 per cent.
Total goods earnings between April-July, 2013, went up to Rs 30,492.06 crore from Rs 27,924.26 crore in the corresponding period in 2012, which is an increase of 9.20 per cent.
Total passenger earnings during for the said period touched Rs 11,631.28 crore as against Rs 10,320.40 crore last year, registering an increase of 12.70 per cent.
Revenue earnings from other sources in the three months in question amounted to Rs 1,307.87 crore compared to Rs 1,017.27 crore last year, an increase of 28.56 per cent.
Total passenger bookings in this period was 2,810.33 million as compared to 2,843.39 million between April and July last year, which constitutes a decrease of 1.16 per cent. In the suburban sector, the number of passenger bookings during April-July this year was 1,495.84 million while the figure stood at 1,459.48 million in the corresponding period in 2012, an increase of 2.49 per cent. However, the non-suburban sector saw a decline. Passenger bookings in this stream for April-July 2013 was 1,314.49 million against 1,383.91 million in the same period last year, which constitutes a decrease of 5.02 per cent.
