Railway bribery case: Trial to commence from 15 Sept

A special court here on Monday fixed 15 September for commencement of trial in the Rs 10-crore cash-for-post railway bribery case in which former Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal’s nephew Vijay Singla and others, including a suspended Railway Board member, were chargesheeted by CBI.
Special CBI Judge Swarana Kanta Sharma, who was scheduled to commence the trial from on Monday, deferred it for 15 September as CBI’s prosecutor was on leave.
Paving the way for the trial, the court had on 11 March framed charges against all the accused under section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC read with provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.
Congress leader Pawan Kumar Bansal, who had resigned as Railway Minister after the case came to light, has been arraigned as a prosecution witness by CBI in the case.
