The Amethi Food park row between Rahul Gandhi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government on Monday took a new twist, when Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal accused the Congress vice-president of not even being aware of the location of the food park, on a day when he visited Amethi.
Gandhi took 10 months to realise that the project has been shelved and now he is misleading people, she claimed.
“Rahul Gandhi doesn’t even know the exact place where this Food Park is to be set up in Amethi. It took him 10 months to realise that the Food Park project has been cancelled. When Gandhi had all the power, he did not do anything, then why is he against it now,” she said at a press conference here.
Gandhi is on a three-day visit to Amethi, his parliamentary constituency, to drum support for the food park.
Badal, had earlier said, that the approval for the mega food park at Jagdishpur in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi was cancelled due to the promoter company not fulfilling the formality of acquiring the requisite land in its name. “Gandhi is misleading people. He is not serious about the food park,” said the Union Minister of Food Processing. She advised the Congress leaders to do their homework well before raising issues.
They should know why the food park was cancelled by their own erstwhile UPA government, she said. “When his party was in power, then he did not do anything for the project, and now for what he is opening his mouth?” she asked.
30 cold chain proposals get Harsimrat nod
Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Monday sanctioned 30 new cold chain proposals. She said that India is the third largest food producer in the world, but only about 2.2 <g data-gr-id="62">per cent</g> of its fruits and vegetables are processed. She also informed that to enhance the creation of infrastructure for food processing, the ministry has in the last one year, inaugurated two Mega Food Parks one in Karnataka and another in Fazilka in Punjab.
The minister said that three more Mega Food Parks are to be inaugurated shortly in West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Assam.
Addressing a press conference, to highlight the one year achievements of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, she said that to address the challenges of insufficient infrastructure leading to huge wastage, the government’s focus is on compressing supply chains and to make them consistent, quicker and efficient for supply of farm produce for food processing.
She said that her ministry is working with the industry for imparting industry relevant skill training, including development of course content in identified sectors of food processing. She added, that the investor-friendly Investor’s Portal has all the required information available online.
