Rahul stands by RSS comments, BJP says he has amnesia

This counter came after Gandhi on Thursday told Supreme Court that he stood by every word of his statement against RSS for their alleged role in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi and that he was ready to face trial for it.

“I stand by each and every word. I will never take my words back. I stood by it yesterday, I stand by it today and I will stand by it in future. I am ready to go to trial,” senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Rahul, told a bench comprising Justices Dipak Misra and RF Nariman. The Congress Vice President had made the statement at an election rally in 2015.

BJP’s National Secretary Srikant Sharma also lashed out at Gandhi saying, “Rahul Gandhi is not aware of history. India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru awarded RSS at the parade ground of 26th January for its social work, so does he oppose Nehru?”

“Congress is responsible for 1984 Sikh riot during Rajiv Gandhi’s regime. Don’t you feel that the party should be convicted?” Sharma added.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Randeep Surjewala also mentioned that, “Rahul Gandhi stood by his statement on murder of Mathama Gandhi. He has repeated this statement as this is the truth.”

Rahul will now face trial in a Bhiwandi court in Maharashtra where the defamation case is filed. The Supreme Court on Thursday said it would not exempt him from making a personal appearance. The top court said the trial court would decide the case without being influenced by any other
court’s orders.
