The leader was breaking his silence on the allegations made by BJP leader Subrmanian Swamy about Rahul’s British nationality. He also accused Modi of “throwing mud” on him through his “cronies” and dared the government to “jail” him if he is guilty.
“I want to say this Modiji, it is your government. You have all the agencies. Set them after me. Show your 56-inch chest. Launch an investigation against me and if you find anything in six months put me in jail,” said Rahul while addressing a Youth Congress gathering, at a function to mark the 98th birth anniversary of former PM Indira Gandhi, his grandmother.
Also present at the event were Congress President Sonia Gandhi accompanied by senior party members including Ghulam Nabi Azad, CP Joshi and Ashok Gehlot.
Rahul also accused the RSS and the BJP of throwing mud on his family members ever since he was a child, asserting that he is “not going to be scared” by such things and that he will continue to fight against BJP.
“Ever since I was a child, I have been watching people from RSS and BJP throwing mud at my grandmother, my father and even my mother. I want to say one thing. Modi ji is now the PM. Different kinds of allegations are leveled against me.
There is not even an iota of truth in them.” Rejecting Swamy’s allegations, he said, “I have not even an iota of fear. I will not withdraw (from attacking Modi). I will continue to fight for the poor, the farmers.”
He also accused the RSS of dividing the nation and encouraging a rift between Hindus and Muslims. “In 1947 during the time of partition, there were riots between Hindus and Muslims. It was Indira Gandhi who tried to end this. She went to Muslims and Hindus and tried to resolve the dispute. The people who were killing each other, they were not many but few people who gave a bad name to both the community. That was the RSS.”
“Our job is to bring people together - the people who respect each other and believe in each other. That is what Indira Gandhi believed in. Indira Gandhi gave identity to Congress,” he added.
