Rahul charges at Modi, Arun Jaitley says Cong facing palace coup now

Following the move, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi stormed into the well of the Lok Sabha, accusing Speaker Sumitra Mahajan of bias for not allowing a discussion on this issue. Also in an oblique reference to prime minister Narendra Modi, Gandhi later said, ‘There is a mood in Parliament that only one man’s voice counts for anything in this country.’

He said that the opinions of his party were not being heard in Parliament, and that the new government did not encourage any form of discussion over any issue. ‘It is one-sided partiality that is what we are raising. I have raised my voice many times in Parliament. We are not being allowed to speak. We are asking for discussions, but this government does not want or accept discussions,’ he told reporters outside parliament.

An upset Gandhi reportedly also conveyed his displeasure to senior BJP leader LK Advani about the Opposition allegedly not being allowed to speak on important issues in Parliament. Both are believed to have had a chance interaction in the corridor of Parliament where Gandhi is believed to have told the BJP patriarch his party is not being allowed to speak on issues.

Rebutting Gandhi’s allegations, finance minister Arun Jaitley said, ‘The question is why has the Congress party made an issue out of a non-issue? The reason is very clear to me. A section of the leadership of the Congress party, because of its inability to lead, has been under pressure.’

Hitting out at the Congress, he added, ‘They have been facing a palace coup. It’s a coup within their own party. Day after day, established leaders of the party are speaking out. It’s an internal compulsion within the party. For that, you need not drag the House or the presiding officer into the debate.’
