In yet another incident of racial attack on people from northeast India in Delhi two students hailing from Manipur were brutally beaten up by four persons including two juveniles in south Delhi’s Munirka area.
According to police, on late Saturday night, at around 9.30 pm the two victims identified as Laith Golain (21) and Boylen (21), residents of Munirka, were sitting at the roadside discussing some college project when two unknown men passed racial comments at them.
The victims told police that initially they ignored them but after repetitive comments, one of them stood up and asked them to leave the place. As a result, an argument ensued between them which later turned into a scuffle.
One of the accused, reportedly made a call to his friend. In some time, two more men reached the spot and started beating the duo.
The victims have also alleged that they were attacked with bricks lying at the nearby construction site. When the locals started gathering all the accused managed to escape from the crime scene.
One of the eye-witness made a call to the police and but the PCR van did not reached on time. The locals rushed the injured duo to a nearby hospital and after one hour the police officials of Vasant Vihar police station reached the hospital.
The hospital staff refereed them to Safdarjung hospital where they are undergoing treatment. Their condition is said to be critical.
During medical examination, it was learnt that one of the victims was attacked with scissor. ‘He had severe stabbing wound on his stomach, back and neck’, said an investigating officer.
Meanwhile, based on the victims’ statement, the identities of the accused have been established. While three accused have been arrested three are still at large. ‘Two of the four accused are juvenile,’ the officer informed.
A man-hunt is on to nab the remaining accused. A case of attempt to murder and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Vasant Vihar police station.
Despite several attempts Delhi Police had failed to prevent attacks on people from north-east. It had also announced a slew of measures including a special helpline and unit to address their grievance after the unfortunate death of Nido Tania earlier this year.
