The candidates were accompanied by their family members and cheering supporters. Prominent local leaders of Congress and BJP gave it a miss, signaling the rift in the respective parties regarding ticket distribution.
Arriving first was BJP candidate Parvesh Sahib Singh, who organised a special religious ceremony at his residence before leaving to file his nomination. Jagdish Mukhi, BJP’s candidate for 2009 general election didn’t attend the ceremony. He, however, made a brief appearance at the nomination venue.
Speaking to media after filing his papers Parvesh said that he doesn’t face any competition from any of the other candidates and wants to see Modi become the PM.
On the other hand in the Congress camp, former legislators Mukesh Sharma and Dayanand Chandela missed Mahabal Mishra’s nomination procedure. He even waited for a while to check if the two were going to appear before heading for nomination.
AAP candidate Jarnail Singh arrived to a luke warm response. However, after filing the nomination, he was welcomed by a considerable number of supporters. Singh claimed that they will win all seven seats in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Mahabal Mishra proved to be the richest candidate from the constituency with total wealth over Rs 15 crores. The combined wealth of him and his wife exceeds well over Rs 35 crores.
Jarnail Singh and Parvesh Sahib Singh posses total wealth amounting to around Rs 95 lakh and Rs 5.5 crores, respectively.
