R S Sharma new Tihar DG

Senior IPS officer J K Sharma on Tuesday took charge as the new Director General of Tihar Jail, succeeding Alok Kumar Verma who had in February taken over as the Delhi Police chief.
A 1982-batch IPS officer, Sharma is the Director General of Delhi Home Guards and has been given the additional charge of DG (Prisons).
An order issued by Delhi government on Tuesday said: “DG (Home Guards) J K Sharma, IPS (AGMU 1982), will hold additional charge of Director General (Prisons) till further orders.” Sharma has served Delhi in different posts and was investigated by central agencies over graft charges.
The officer, after taking over the new post, visited the jail and held a meeting with senior prison officials.
