To promote Indian handicraft, Priya Communication in association with Artfed and Ministry of Textile organised a fashion pageant and a quiz show based on handicraft in the Capital. The quiz show was hosted by veteran quiz master Barry O’ Brien.
Unlike other quiz shows, this quiz had live rounds in the form of fashion pageants wherein models and prototypes showcased various handicraft artefacts from around India. Questions were asked in relation with the products showcased by the models and the audience was asked to identify the artefacts. This was a unique initiative to know the country through the medium of handicraft and thus aptly named Apne Desh Ko Jano (know your nation).
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest of the show, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Textile, Government of India, Zohra Chatterje said that the huge gathering present on the occasion was a tribute to the 69 lakh artisans of the country who are incessantly toiling hard to come up with the finest products.
Anoop Khanna of Priya Communication said,‘Among many identities of India, one distinctive character which defines and unites the country is its handicraft. This trait of India is always enamoured by the world panorama but in our own country there is an urgent necessity to popularise this colossal sector, giving due share to the artisans. There is an awareness deficit in India when it comes to the handicraft.’
Meanwhile one of the organisers, DJ Borah commented that this extravaganza turned out to be the biggest showcase of this labour intensive craftsmanship which in turn will help the products to reach to the domestic market on a much wider scale. We must say it, was truly one of it’s own kind of event.
