PWD moves to tackle waterlogging woes

The Delhi public works department (PWD) has received a list of 31 locations where waterlogging was noticed from the traffic police. According to PWD officials, remedial action has already been taken at all these locations to ensure that there is no further instance of waterlogging at these locations.
The officials added that the reason for the drains getting blocked was polythene, garbage, etc getting stuck in drains.

This they claimed had resulted in waterlogging in the areas under question.
Officials claimed that the drains were cleared in just an hour after receiving the complaint. PWD minister Raj Kumar Chauhan said, ‘All seniors officials and engineering staff of PWD has been instructed to focus on the maintenance work in these areas.’

In a bid to address complaints related to monsoons, PWD has made a provision for  a Monsoon Control Room at its headquarters in IP Estate.

The toll free number of the control room is 1800-11-00-93. The plan is to post one officer of the rank of assistant engineer at the control room round-the-clock throughout the monsoons.
The department has also deployed ‘maintenance vans’ that will cover all parts of the capital to meet any contingency.
