PWD awards tender to construct new flyover

The traffic mess around Rao Tula Ram Marg and Outer Ring Road in South Delhi will soon come to an end with Public Works Department awarding tender to a company for construction of a three-lane flyover parallel to RTR flyover, estimated to cost Rs 278 crore.

PWD’s stand comes after Delhi High Court recently allowed it to continue opening the tender for the construction of new flyover parallel to single-carriageway flyover. ‘The project involves building three-lane 2.3 kilometer flyover parallel to the existing single-lane flyover on Rao Tula Ram Marg, a key south Delhi link to the airport. The construction work is expected to start by December this year,’ said a senior PWD official.

The official said that the project will be completed in 24 months and the construction work of new flyover is expected to be completed till December 2016, adding that the project cost is Rs 278 crore. The new three-lane flyover will commence from the existing Munirka flyover and run parallel to the RTR flyover before descending near Niryat Bhawan.

According to the official, PWD will also construct an underpass at Benito Juarez Marg and a skywalk.
