Punjabi Bagh murder: 25-yr-old garment trader arrested

After the arrest of Anurag Jain (25), it was learnt that he had hatched the conspiracy in order to meet his personal losses. He was known to the victim’s family and had conducted a recce, a week ago.

“Jain, who is a resident of Punjabi Bagh, knew that the Bansal family was financially well-off. After conducting a recce, he bought a set of knives and chopper from Paschim Vihar, and also stitched a mask,” Pushpendra Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) said. Around 6.30 am on Monday, Anurag scaled the boundary wall of Sulochana’s house. He disconnected the wires of two CCTV?cameras which were in his reach but could not disconnect the other two as they were fixed at a height.

He observed the activities of the Bansal family and saw Sulochana’s husband and daughter-in-law leaving the house at around 11 am. The door of the house was left open by them. Finding an opportunity, Anurag entered the house but was noticed by Sulochana, who raised an alarm and ran after him.

Anurag attacked Sulochana with a knife. After a few stabs, the knife broke. He then took out another knife and attacked her. Finally, he used the chopper and killed her. Thereafter, he went to the first floor of the house and locked Sulochana’s five-year-old grandson Daksh in a bathroom and ransacked the house.

On late Monday, Anurag was nabbed after his motorcycle was found parked near the house without its number plate.

The engine number of the motorcycle was also found to have been erased. Later it was learnt that the motorcycle was registered in Anurag’s name. On sustained interrogation he broke down and confessed his involvement.
