‘Punjab govt to be blamed for attack’

On Friday, S Paramjit Singh Sarna, president of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee & Shiromani Akali Dal Delhi condemned the ‘most unfortunate incident’ that took place on 15 November.
When the meeting of the Executive Board of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee was in progress, apparently some members of Shiromani Akali Dal Badal group attacked when they were not allowed inside the premises.
In the resulting fracus, with both the factions attacking each other with kirpans, 11 members were injured.
Manjit Singh, Shiromani Akali Dal Badal(SADB) president (Delhi) and All India general secretary, and Chaman Singh were among the 11 injured. They were immediately taken to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.
‘Punjab government was involved in this attack. They attacked the office of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee with the intention of destroying the office record of the committee and to eliminate me and my brother S Harvinder Singh Sarna,’ said Sarna.
Sarna also said he got the information late evening before the meeting of the board, that the leaders of the Badal Dal has planned to attack the office of DSGMC to destroy the office record of the committee.
‘I took prompt action and asked the officials, employees, members and office bearers of the committee for security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident. We also informed the police at PS Parliament Street at 10 am on 15 November,’ said S Harvinder Singh Sarna, a member.
The security arrangements, the members said, ‘was late in action’ though they were informed early.
‘The other group started pelting stones, fired bullets and attacked with swords resulting in damage to the gurdwara property and severely injured the staff and employees of DSGMC who were trying to protect the gurdwara property,’ said Harmeet Singh Jolly, youth general secretary.
