Taking forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to construct toilets, the ministry of steel has identified 2,500 toilet blocks, which would be completed by March next year. While reviewing the progress of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, Union Steel Minister Narendra Singh Tomar advised heads of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) to ensure that the identification and blocking of schools and placement of work orders must be completed by December.
The minister also told them to ensure the completion of construction of toilets in schools by March 2015 and quality of construction must be of high standards and long-lasting.
Notably, CPSEs under the ministry of steel had earlier decided to construct 3,500 toilet blocks at an aggregate cost of Rs 100 crore.
Out of these, around 2,400 toilet blocks have been identified and blocked by the CPSEs on the
website of ministry of HRD, and the remaining are being identified. Similarly CPSEs under the ministry of mines had allocated Rs 7.5 crore.
