PSOs under police radar

The three personal security officers (PSOs) that have been alloted to Ponty Chadha by Punjab police are also being investigated by the Delhi police. From the crime scene, different kinds of empty bullet shells were recovered. The Delhi police has also asked the Punjab police to explain the reasons for allotting police security personnels to Chadha. On Monday, Punjab police and Uttarakhand police have joined the investigation with the Delhi police.

The empty bullet shells that have been recovered are .30 bore (service revolver), ,38 bore (service revolver), 7.62 bore (mouser), 7.68 bore (mouser) and carbine empty bullet shells. The police have identified that the carbine shells belong to constable Sachin Tyagi, who was assigned as PSO of Sukhdev by Uttarakhand police. But is yet to identify other empty shells.

As per the crime sequence that was recreated on Monday, the police said the incident ocurred because of sudden provocation and there was no prior intention of killing. Though it is yet to be answered why only specific persons were attacked and why the PSOs of the trio (Ponty Chadha, Hardeep Singh and Sukhdev Namdhari) did not receive any gunshot injuries.

The Delhi police are still looking for clues with regard to the involvement PSOs who might have been misused in the gun battle.

Generally, the personal security officers (PSO) are deployed to defend the attackers, but in this case, the attacker is Hardeep Singh, who allegedly killed Ponty Chadha over the farmhouse dispute. There was no reason for Hardeep’ Singh’s PSO and the gun man for shooting Ponty Chadha or attack Sukhdev Namdhari, Chairman of Uttarakhand minority commission. As neither of them opened fired at Hardeep Singh. As per the FIR lodged by Namdhari, Hardeep Singh opened fired on Ponty and him.

In retaliation, constable Sachin Tyagi, who has been assigned as PSO for Sukhdev by Uttarakhand police opened fire on Hardeep Singh that allegedly killed him. It was alleged by the police that Ponty  Chadha was attacked by Hardeep Singh along with his PSO. The question is: why the PSO of Hardeep Singh was not attacked?

According to sources, ‘If it was a gun battle without any planning, then those who were present on the crime scene should have received some injury or the other.’

During the incident, there were 11 people present, namely Ponty Chadha, Hardeep Singh, Sukhdev Nambdhari, constable Sachin Tyagi, three PSOs of Ponty Chadha, Narender, Ponty Chadha’s security manager, driver of Ponty Chadha, PSO and a security person of Hardeep Singh. ‘Only Narender received gun shot injuries that was allegedly fired by Hardeep Singh. However, Ponty Chadha and Hardeep Singh were killed during the incident.’

According to the FIR registered by Namdhari, Hardeep Singh opened the fire first. He shot at Narender, then killed Ponty Chadha after which he has attacked.

NO PROPERTY DISPUTE, SAY FAMILY, LAWYER

Parmjeet Singh Sarna, brother of Hardeep’s father-in-law and a leader in Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) refused the theory that there was any property dispute between the brothers. Sarna also said that both the brothers cannot fire on each other, be it any argument or dispute.  While talking to Millennium Post, Gaurang Kanth, lawyer cum friend of Hardeep Singh Chadha, brother of Ponty Chadha said, ‘there was no official meeting between the two brothers who were killed in the gun battle on Saturday.’  ‘On Friday, I had dinner with Hardeep at his residence when we had a small conversation about the property disputes between him and Ponty. Hardeep was sounding very casual as he has handed over all the legal responsibility to me,’ said Kanth.
