Protests against FYUP: VC’s photo on a buffalo

Students put up photographs of the VC and director of south campus Umesh Rai on two separate buffaloes. They held placards, which said, ‘Na ye Bhains sunti hai aur na DU ka VC’ (neither this buffalo listens nor the VC of Delhi University), ‘Bhains ke aage been bajana’ (playing the flute to a buffalo is a waste). In an attempt to mock the authorities, students were also seen playing the flute to highlight their point.

Protesters specified their demands, which include, rollback of FYUP and commencement of re-evaluation of answer sheets in the varsity. Students also demanded construction of more hostels to alleviate problems faced by outstation students.

Rohit Chahal, national secretary, ABVP said, ‘But instead of listening to demands made by students, the vice chancellor made FYUP the theme of Antardhvani this year to subjected the event to further his propaganda and used police force to suppress students by lathicharge and water-canons. In days to come, we will strengthen the student movement against FYUP and save the future of lakhs of students.’

ABVP’s national secretary Rohit Chahal, Delhi state secretary Saket Bahuguna, DUSU president Aman Awana and DUSU joint secretary Raju Rawat led the protest.
