Property dealer held after woman he used to extort money spills beans

According to the police, a case under the charges of rape had been registered by a woman in December at Greater Kailash police station. After the complaint was received and the woman’s statement was recorded, the person against whom the complaint was registered was arrested. He was identified as Rakesh Singh, a resident of Greater Kailash, also a property dealer in the Southern Range of the national Capital.

The local court had sent him to the judicial custody and since then he was spending his term in Tihar Jail. Before one of the hearing, the woman had submitted an affidavit to the judge alleging that she was forced to frame Rakesh under false charges. She clearly mentioned that she was not raped and Rakesh is innocent.

She further told the court that her friend — Sanjay Singh — who is also the best friend of Rakesh, had asked her to make false claims against Rakesh so that he can go behind the bar. Sanjay also told the woman that he failed to return a debt of Rs 85 lakh to Rakesh and the latter is pressurising him to return the money.

After the woman confessed that Rakesh is not guilty, the court had directed the police to investigate the case under the charges of extortion. Since January, the South-east district police are working on the case and it was learnt that Sanjay, with the help of the woman was attempting to extort Rakesh of Rs 1.5 crore. It was found that Sanjay was asking Rakesh either to pay Rs 1.5 crore to the woman to compromise the case or face consequences.

It is worth mentioning that Rakesh and Sanjay were childhood friends and came into the same profession of property dealing.

“Soon after the investigation was completed, Rakesh was released from the jail and Sanjay was arrested under the charges of extortion,” a police official said. Meanwhile, action is likely to be taken against the woman who had implicated Rakesh.
