Delhi Police on Saturday relaxed prohibitory orders for 13 hours in Delhi’s communal violence hit Trilokpuri area.
‘The prohibitory orders relaxation is from 6am to 7pm (Saturday),’ Additional commissioner of police Pushpendra Kumar said.
Police on Friday relaxed the prohibitory orders for 13 hours. It also gave permission to residents of Block 20 to organise a ‘jagran’ — a night-long religious gathering — in their neighbourhood on Friday.
Police said the ‘jagran’ was held ‘peacefully’. Two groups of Hindus and Muslims clashed on Diwali on 23 October after which the authorities imposed prohibitory orders banning gatherings and movements of people. Pushpendra Kumar said the police have decided to organise a community meeting between the two groups on Saturday in the wake of Muharram procession on 4 November.
Police said they will continue to use a drone camera to monitor the rooftops for bricks and glass bottles in the troubled area. So far, 68 people were arrested in connection with the clashes.
Meanwhile, a group of Jawaharlal University students on Saturday protested outside the Delhi Police headquarters alleging discrimination against the minority community in the communal violence that hit Trilokpuri. Police said the group gathered around 12.30 pm and protested for over half-an-hour.
