Proclaimed offender who jumped bail arrested from south-east Delhi

A 52-year-old man has been arrested from south-east Delhi on Monday who was declared as a proclaimed offender after he had jumped bail after being arrested for burning a woman’s shop 28 years ago in west Delhi.
The accused has been identified as Kesho, a resident of Amar Colony area. After he jumped the bail, he left Delhi and had been living at Vadodara in Gujarat. On the day of his arrest, he had came to meet a relative. 28 years ago, he put the shop of one Surjeet Kaur on fire due to which all the commodities in the shop were gutted. She then filed a complaint against him at Farsh Bazar police station and the accused was arrested. Further a chargesheet was also filed against him.
Kesho was granted bail but he did not appear in court and jumped his bail. On this he was declared Proclaimed Offender by the court of Nivedita Anil Sharma, Ld. M.M. Karkarduma Courts, New Delhi on 9 December, 1997. Since then, a man-hunt was on to nab him.
On Monday, there was a tip off that he would be coming at New Sanjay Amar colony to meet his relatives. ‘On this information, a team was sent to Amar Colony and trap was laid. The accused was arrested at the instance of the informer.
On sustained interrogation, the accused disclosed that he was involved in burning down of the shop. After bail he left Delhi and started living at Vadodara, Gujarat, to avoid the trial and since then he has been living there,’ a police official said.
