Problems aplenty for Cong in NE Delhi LS seat

Despite winning the Congress ‘primary’ for the North East Delhi Lok Sabha seat, danger signs for JP Agarwal’s prospects for the upcoming elections have already come to the surface. Muslim voters, who form a large chunk of voters in the area, have alleged that no work was done to uplift them. Voters have also said that Agarwal hasn’t raised the concerns of the community in parliament.

North-East parliamentary constituency is one of 99 minority-concentrated districts that possess a special provision for development work in pockets where Muslims are in majority. The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs had sanctioned Rs 23 crores for opening educational institutions, sanitation works, loans for self employment, water facilities and housing projects in the district. However, this amount was not spent. RTI activist Dr Faheem Baig has claimed that the money was sent back to the centre.
