Priyanka to address 150 rallies in UP: Sources

According to Congress sources, the campaign would be “nothing like anyone has seen” with Priyanka moving beyond the party’s traditional bastions of Amethi and Rae Bareli.

“The workers are very enthusiastic about the prospect of Priyanka Gandhi leading the charge. The programme is not final yet but tentatively, it is being said that she will play a leading role in the party’s campaign in Uttar Pradesh. She will address over 150 rallies across the length and breadth of the state. Traditionally, she has only campaigned in Amethi and Rae Bareli. This time, she will move beyond those two Lok Sabha constituencies,” said a member of Congress’ publicity division.

He added saying, “It will be nothing like anything anyone has seen. The Congress will do well in this election. The programme is being finalised at the top level. The final details will be sketched out by the Congress president.”

Congress leader Nagma, who was in Meerut on Sunday, told TOI that the party was close to “finalising” its strategy ahead of the 2017 assembly polls.

“With Ghulam Nabi Azaad at the helm of affairs in UP, we are confident that we will do well. He is an experienced leader. We are not completely down and out in the state. Let us not forget that we got a significant number of seats in the last election too. Our poll strategy is being finalised and soon, the campaign will be kicked off,” a senior leader said.
