The accused, Muneer, was arrested along with one of his associates Adnan. Muneer, on whom a reward of Rs 2 lakh was announced by the UP Police, has been taken to an undisclosed location where NIA along with other security forces are questioning him. Earlier, police had arrested Rizvan, Tanzeem, Rehan and Zainul in this connection.
Muneer was arrested after the Delhi Police Special Cell gave a tip off to the UP police that he had fled from ISBT bus terminal to Sarai Kale Khan and the latest locations were from Greater Noida.
While quoting the confessional statement of the arrested accused, the official sources told Millennium Post that after the reward of Rs 2 lakh was announced on Muneer, he told his associates that he won’t be nabbed by the police and to avert his arrest he would kill two-three more police officials.
Another source added: “Muneer was planning to eliminate Ahmed since January as he thought that he was helping other security forces by giving tip-offs about him related to the Rs 91 lakh robbery in Bijnor. In February, Muneer took a flat on rent in South-East Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh area near Ahmed’s residence and hatched the conspiracy to eliminate him.”
The source further claimed that Muneer and Ahmed knew each other and the duo had some tainted past that is a matter of investigation. He further added that all the arrested persons have alleged that Ahmed was into extortion and raised questions on his honesty. Not only this but during the investigation, it also came to light that Ahmed had allegedly settled few land deals at his native place in Bijnor. Those deals are also under scanner, he added.
However, senior officials of NIA neither confirmed nor denied the allegations framed against Ahmed after his murder. A highly placed source confirmed that a special team is revisiting the cases handled by Ahmed to ascertain the allegations.
Meanwhile, Muneer is also being questioned for his prime role in the ATM robbery heist of Rs 1.5 crore in Kamla Nagar in 2014. After committing the robbery in the national Capital, he robbed Rs 91 lakh from Bijnor and committed another robbery in Lucknow.
