Pricey pulses add to govt woes

Amid a supply crunch, retail prices of many pulses have crossed Rs 100 per kg mark in major cities across the national Capital, but the government agencies are yet to float the tender for their import to check the price.

Barring gram and masoor dal, all major varieties of pulses – including tur, urad and moong – are being sold at prices above Rs 100 per kg in the four metro cities due to lower production of the key lentils during the last harvest. In <g data-gr-id="17">first</g> week of this month, Delhi government seized around 27,000 quintal various types of pulses during raid drives. Delhi Food supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Asim <g data-gr-id="20">Ahamad</g> Khan claimed that after raids in different parts of Delhi, pulses prices would <g data-gr-id="12">be come</g> 
down.
