Prenatal test: Cops asked to file FIR against medical centres

The Delhi Police was on Friday directed to file FIR against three medical centres for conducting pre-birth sex determination tests. Madhu Teotia, deputy commissioner (North), while chairing the meeting of District Advisory Committee (North District) said that the concerned authorities have also been directed to issue show-cause notices to three centres.

Teotia further said the main purpose of enacting the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994 is to ban the use of sex selection techniques for selective abortion.

It may be recalled that PCPNDT is an act of Parliament, enacted to stop female foeticides and improve the declining sex ratio in India, she informed.
