‘Pre-monsoon shower to bring sizzling Delhi relief next week’

The weatherman has some good news and some bad news for the national capital. First the good. Delhi is likely to receive pre-monsoon showers next week, a whole month earlier than the rain gods had decided to relieve Delhi of the scorching heat last year. Now for the bad news. Before the relief of the pre-monsoon showers, the mercury in the city is again expected to climb two-three degree upwards this week, with the heat peaking on Thursday.

'The maximum temperature in the city will fall rapidly from 10 June onwards and there will be a change in the wind pattern. This wind may cause rain or thunder showers in the city on 10 or 11 June or on both the days,' said M Duraisamy, in-charge of the weather forecast centre at the Regional Meteorological Centre in Delhi. If the forecast holds, the city will receive pre-monsoon showers around one month earlier than it did in 2012. In 2012, the pre-monsoon showers had hit the city on 6 July.

'As the monsoon has already hit coastal Kerala, it will reach Delhi by 29 June provided the weather conditions are normal. We expect an average monsoon this year in Delhi and north  India,' added Duraisamy. He further added that the rain-bringing winds are expected from the Bay of Bengal, but it may blow from the south-west too.

The weatherman has predicted that due to pre-monsoon showers the temperature will remain below normal between 10 to 13 June.
'The maximum temperature in the city is likely to increase from Tuesday onwards and will go up by two to three degree Celsius. Hence the maximum temperature will hover around 42 to 44 degree Celsius between Wednesday and Sunday. This may be the last spell of hot waves in the city for this year,' said Duraisamy.

The weatherman has predicted Friday to be the likely hottest day of the week with maximum and minimum temperatures hovering around 44 and 29 degree Celsius respectively. 'This would be the last spell of hot waves for this summer,' added Duraisamy.
According to the weatherman the maximum and minimum temperature on Tuesday will hover around 41 and 29 degree Celsius which would be around one degree more than the maximum and minimum on Monday.
