Powerless Noida and Gzb residents feel searing heat

With <g data-gr-id="47">mercury</g> rising, residents of Noida and Ghaziabad are reeling under severe power outages these days. Normal life in these <g data-gr-id="35">have</g> been hit hard by power cuts ranging from six to 12 hours every day. 

In the past few days, numerous outages have been reported from every nook and corner of the NCR that have forced the residents, local organisations and industrial bodies to approach the District Magistrate in the near future to get their grievances registered. 

The situation was worse during the weekend as residents of various sectors complained of massive power outages during the day and night hours as well. The worst affected are the rural areas which have been witnessing nearly 15 hours of power cut every day and industrial belts also facing scheduled power cuts up to four hours daily.

As per reports, power demand in Noida has peaked above 1,000 MW while the supply stands at a below 800 MW. Residents of the area claim to experience power cuts more than six hours daily and even posh sectors are also affected. With reports of over 10 hours outages, power woes continue to be a huge concern in Greater Noida. 

The rural belt of both the cities <g data-gr-id="36">are</g> worst-affected as power is being supplied for four to six hours a day. <g data-gr-id="41">Annoyed</g> due to regular cuts, residents of Bilaspur called a shut down on Monday. The people threatened to intensify their protests if electricity department fails to address the issue. 

The RWAs have also threatened to agitate steps against the local administration. Meanwhile, the officials of electricity department have stated that the state is going through a power crisis.

Regular outages in Noida’s Phase — I, II and III and industrial hub of Greater Noida have also left the residents fuming. 

A senior official from the power department said it is not getting enough electricity from UPPCL. According to a senior official of Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL), a subsidiary of UPPCL: “We have limited number of power sub-stations that are capable of supplying enhanced power. We have been working on some projects so we could improve upon the situation. Once construction work of few sub-stations <g data-gr-id="42">are</g> complete, we will supply additional electricity. Two sub-stations, which are at the stage of completion, will help in ending this crisis up to certain extent.”

In Ghaziabad, the power supply varies between 850 MW to 1,000 MW as against the required demand of nearly 1,500 MW. The residents of <g data-gr-id="39">Govindpuram</g>, Vasundhara, Vaishali, Indirapuram, Raj Nagar, Sahibabad, Murad Nagar, Modi Nagar are reeling under severe power crisis as Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has failed to meet the surging power demand.
