‘Power Grid Corporation has commissioned Raichur-Solapur transmission line, interconnecting the Southern grid synchronously with rest of the National Power Grid facilitating bulk transfer of power across regional boundaries, ‘ an official statement said.
The statement added that the circuit transmission line Raichur and Solapur has been commissioned five months ahead of its contractual schedule - 31 May, 2014 at a cost of approximately Rs 815 crore.
With this interconnection, country's transmission network now transfers about 2,32,000 MW of installed power generation capacity.
The move will not only augment the inter-regional power transfer capacity of Southern region but also relieve the congestion being experienced in few transmission corridors, the statement said. It is likely to take a few months before power flow over this line is stabilised, it added.
Till now, four regional grids namely Northern, Eastern, Western and North-eastern regions were connected synchronously and Southern Region was connected to this North-eastern grid.
