After the completion of transmission restoration works in Delhi, the residents face the heat of the administration’s apathy. Power outages have become a normal phenomenon and particularly in areas under Reliance-owned BSES Yamuna Power Limited. However, the consumers of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited areas are not facing power cuts of any sort. Despite stern warnings from Delhi LG Najeeb Jung and Delhi Electricity Regulatory Authority (DERC) has show-cause notices to the three discoms, the condition remains to be same.
In the past 12 years of privatisation of power in Delhi, BSES could not develop sustainable infrastructures such as grids, transformers and cables. In BSES areas, the complaint of grid failure, transformers’ damage as well as cables’ blast incidents occur almost every day. Shaheen Bagh resident Irshad Ahmad says: ‘The President-rule is worse than Sheila Dikshit-led government perhaps. On Wednesday, Sarita Vihar, Jasola and Abul Fazal enclave areas faced major power cuts since early morning.
