Power minister attacks Opposition on power, water

Delhi power minister, Haroon Yusuf, lashed out at the Opposition on Monday and told them to avoid politicising water and power issues in the capital, and said, 'there is no point in coercing the people to not pay their power bills', he further added.

Replying to a discussion moved by Dr Harsh Vardhan, RN Bansal and Sunil Vaidya in the legislative assembly, Yusuf claimed, 'Delhi is the only state where 24x7 power supply is available.'

He further stated that power deficiency in Delhi is much less (0.1 per cent) as compared to  other states including the likes of Madhya Pradesh(3.5 per cent), Karnataka (14.9 per cent), and Bihar (21 per cent) respectively. The losses of AT&C have come down from 60 per cent to 15 per cent across Delhi.

He reminded the members of the pre-privatisation era, where he said, there used to be violent demonstration against long power cuts which would continue for several days at a stretch.

Mounting  a scathing attack on the Opposition, the minister said that their claim to reduce power tariff by 30 per cent was nothing more than a political move.

The minister also refuted allegations of scarcity of water in Delhi stated that the Delhi Jal Board has been able to provide drinking and potable water to the entire population through pipes and water tankers.
