Despite assurances from union power minister Piyush Goyal and Delhi lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung that there would be normal power supply from 21 June, Reliance-owned power distribution companies BSES (Yamuna and Rajdhani) issued their load shedding bulletin for 23 June. Due to storms on 30 May, many transmissions towers were demolished. Despite the completion of all restoration work, power cuts will continue to occur.
Reliance-owned discoms BSES (Yamuna and Rajdhani) on Sunday issued outage bulletin for 23 June (Monday). Areas under BSES Yamuna that will be affected on 23 June are SBI Welcome, Naveen Shadara, Subhash Park, Gorakh Park, Panchsheel Shivaji Park, Kanti Nagar, Ram Leela Ground, Seelmpur, Kailash Nagar, Lalita Park Shakar Pur, Ganesh Nagar, Vijay Park, Yamuna Vihar Nand Nagari, Preet Vihar, Sonia Vihar and Mayur Vihar Phase-1, 2 and 3.
Areas under BSES Rajdhani area that will be affected on 23 June are Tamur Nagar, Jamia Nagar, Batla House, Defence Colony, Ashram, Sri Niwas Puri, Pankha Road, Hari Nagar, Mayapuri, Matiala, Bindapuri and Janakpur, Dwarka and Dabari, amongst others. Officially these discoms have announced load shedding for one hour. However, according to residents, power cuts tend to extend for 2-3 hours.
Delhi Transco Limited has completed all related works on the Shalimar Bagh-Wazirpur 220 kV cable, Badarpur-Noida-Ghazipur 220 KV line, Permanent Restoration of 220 KV Bawana-Rohini line and 220 KV Maharani Bagh- Trauma Centre line.
The residents of Delhi have suffered from the summer heat due to the administration’s apathy. Power outages have become a normal phenomenon, particularly in areas under Reliance-owned BSES Yamuna Power Limited. Areas falling under Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited have not faced power cuts. Delhiites have faced power outages since 16 January under the guise of maintenance work.
The company, despite being warned by the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, continues to maintain load-shedding during night hours when the district magistrate of the areas are out of reach for the common man. AAP had promised the restructure of power distribution companies in Delhi, wherein everyone would receive electricity. The BJP too had promised a cut of 30 per cent in electricity rates. However, these promises remain hollow.
BSES consumers are helpless. ‘We are angry over outages. During president’s rule, the power crisis has deepened in Delhi’, said an annoyed consumer from Batla House. On Sunday, peak demand met during last 24 hours was 5533 MW. TPDDL supplied an all-time record power demand of 1628 MW without any load-shedding.
