Portals of Kedarnath, Yamunotri closed for pilgrims

The chief executive officer (CEO) of Badrinath-Shri Kedarnath Temple Committee told that with traditional hymns and offerings, the portals were closed at 8:30 am for the next six months.

In the winter months, the idol of Lord Shiva will be worshipped in Ukhimath, where it was carried from Kedarnath temple in a palanquin, which is locally known as Utsav dholi.

It is noteworthy that on account of natural catastrophe of high magnitude on 16-17 June, the Kedarnath temple remained closed for three months as trek routes and road connection remained cut-off for more than three months.

The temple committee team carried out the cleaning operations inside and on the premises of holy shrine. With the sincere efforts of BRO and PWD under the instructions of state government, the reconstruction and rehabilitation work was carried on war footing. Consequently, the prayers were resumed on 11 September and from 5 October, the holy pilgrimage re-started with certain restrictions.
