A man smuggling poppy husk (an opium source) was on Friday arrested after a police team chasing him brought his car to a halt by shooting to deflate his car tyre, police said. A haul of 20 kg of narcotic was made from him. Sajan, 23, was arrested from west Delhi’s Mianwali Nagar by a police patrol after he did not stop his car, though flagged down by Police Control Room van staff.
‘Two people were riding a blue Hyundai car. A PCR van staff signalled the car to stop, but the driver accelerated the vehicle. After a chase of about four km, the police team punctured the tyre of the car by opening fire at it. Sajan was arrested with 20 kg poppy husk but his associate managed to escape,’ said a police officer. ‘Sajan resides in the west Delhi’s Nihal Vihar area. He is being questioned to know from where he had collected such a big consignment of poppy husk and where he was going to deliver it,’ said the officer. Police is also trying to find the name of his associates.
