Poplar becomes a potential climate mitigation option

After the 24th session of International Poplar commission was inaugurated, the 2nd day of IPC session proceedings started with Technical sessions under various themes listed by IPC at different venues in the sylvan surroundings of Forest Research Institute, Dehradun.  The day’s sessions were divided into 7 themes wherein presenters from different countries including India deliberated on the topic pertaining to each theme. In their presentations, different scientists from different countries deliberated and discussed the advances made so far. In total 64 papers were presented during the day. Dr. V K Bahuguna, Dir General, ICFRE-cum-Chancellor, FRI Deemed University and leader of Indian delegation expressed hope that all the participating countries shall get mutually benefited from the presentations made during the session. Dr. P P Bhojvaid, Director, Forest Research institute told that new states are coming forward for planting Poplar and the technical discussions held during the day will  help  decide future  course of research on Poplars and willows in India. Under the theme on Environmental application of poplars and willows 14 papers were presented by scientists from Canada, Tunisia, Italy, Sweden, Germany, Turkey, USA and India.
